Before the 2009 baseball season officially begins, I want to go on the record and say the Florida Marlins will win the World Series. Even though I didn't pick them to do it, I believe they will shock the world and win the world series after another six year span.
The Marlins won the championship in 1997 and 2003. Another six years later and the Marlins have a young and talented team that could win it all again. In 2003 the Marlins won 91 games to capture the wild card on their way to upsetting the Yankees. The year before the Marlins won only 79 games. Last season the Marlins won 84 games and it seems like everybody forgot about that and only sees the defending champion, Phillies and the chokers, Mets as the only contenders in the NL East.
This year the Marlins may have the best pitching rotation in the entire major leagues. Ricky Nolasco, Josh Johnson, Chris Volstad, Anibal Sanchez, and Andrew Miller may not be well known yet, but with an average age of only 24, these young arms have the talent to lead the Marlins to 95 wins.
The hitters are also young and talented. My pick to win the NL MVP is their shortstop Hanley Ramirez, who hit 33 homers last year, has increased his power every year in three seasons as a Marlin. To go along with Han-Ram is slugging second baseman Dan Uggla, comeback player of the year Jorge Cantu, and the next Willie Mays is now starting in centerfield, Cameron Maybin.
Everyone is overlooking the Marlins who are in a talented division but they certainly have the potential to win a lot of ball games this season and if they do win their third championship in 12 years they will once again trade away the entire team and take six more years to build another championship team.
