Congrats UNC

North Carolina is up by 21 at the half and setting a championship game record with 55 points at halftime. So I figured I would congratulate them as they are well on there way to there second national championship in four years. This tournament run has been one of the most impressive in recent memory. They have beaten every team by double digits and have only been challenged by one team, LSU before Ty Lawson took over and carried the Tar Heels to the sweet 16. It also seemed like North Carolina would never miss a three pointer and were truly unstoppable.
Coming into the tournament I thought they were in trouble with a hurt Ty Lawson, so I stupidly picked Gonzaga to beat them. That didn't happen. North Carolina was the most talented team in college basketball this year and it showed during March.
The Heels were lead by Ty Lawson, who was the best point guard in college basketball and then maybe the greatest Tar Heel of all-time Tyler Hansbrough, made this years team almost unstoppable. To go along with those two were Wayne Ellington, Danny Green, and Deon Thompson all averaging over 10 points. I am happy for Hansbrough, Lawson, and Green who all could have gone pro last year, but they stayed to achieve the goal of winning the national championship. Mission accomplished.
So, Congratulations to North Carolina on their great season and National Championship.

Jimmy Nantz still ruined the game even though its already over. Gus/Raftery '10.

I'm not sayin, I'm just sayin

Before the 2009 baseball season officially begins, I want to go on the record and say the Florida Marlins will win the World Series. Even though I didn't pick them to do it, I believe they will shock the world and win the world series after another six year span.
The Marlins won the championship in 1997 and 2003. Another six years later and the Marlins have a young and talented team that could win it all again. In 2003 the Marlins won 91 games to capture the wild card on their way to upsetting the Yankees. The year before the Marlins won only 79 games. Last season the Marlins won 84 games and it seems like everybody forgot about that and only sees the defending champion, Phillies and the chokers, Mets as the only contenders in the NL East.
This year the Marlins may have the best pitching rotation in the entire major leagues. Ricky Nolasco, Josh Johnson, Chris Volstad, Anibal Sanchez, and Andrew Miller may not be well known yet, but with an average age of only 24, these young arms have the talent to lead the Marlins to 95 wins.
The hitters are also young and talented. My pick to win the NL MVP is their shortstop Hanley Ramirez, who hit 33 homers last year, has increased his power every year in three seasons as a Marlin. To go along with Han-Ram is slugging second baseman Dan Uggla, comeback player of the year Jorge Cantu, and the next Willie Mays is now starting in centerfield, Cameron Maybin.
Everyone is overlooking the Marlins who are in a talented division but they certainly have the potential to win a lot of ball games this season and if they do win their third championship in 12 years they will once again trade away the entire team and take six more years to build another championship team.

RISE AND FIRE

Watch the video first, Gus is GOD
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GkiM3tBJVhk

After I wrote about how much I wanted Bill Raftery to announce the Final Four, I realized Gus Johnson deserves to be sitting alongside with him. The most memorable tournament game I have watched in the past ten years was the second round game of 2007, when Xavier almost upset Ohio State. Gus Johnson was announcing that ball game and had the same emotions I did. I had Ohio State winning the championship and when Ron Lewis hit the three to tie the game at the end of regulation, I lost it right along with Gus. That was one of the best games I ever watched and thankfully Gus announced it.
The day Gus Johnson and Bill Raftery announce a basketball game together is the day I die a happy man, because I will literally have a heart attack the moment the game starts. Can you imagine a buzzer beater situation in which Gus says, "RISE AND FIRE, PUUUUURRRRRRRREEEE" and Raftery chimes in with ONIONS!!!! I am speechless to what I would do at that moment. WOW. GUS and BILL.

Watch it again, and thank the lord Gus announces basketball

Jay Cutler hardly the next Punky QB

I doubt Jay Cutler will be drinking a beer when he is introduced to the media in Chicago. I doubt Cutler will ever wear a headband and re-create the Super Super Shuffle. And I doubt he will ever moon a camera at practice during a Super Bowl practice, mainly because he will never reach the Super Bowl.
Jay Cutler will not lead the Bears to the promise land anytime soon. The Bears offense is bad as the Broncos defense had been. Last season the Bears ranked 26th, averaging less than 300 yards per game. With Rashied Davis as the number one receiver it's gonna be tough sledding in the windy city. Also the Bears are a team that likes to pound the rock. Matt Forte ran for 1200 yards as a rookie last season and has the potential to be one of the leagues best running backs. Running the ball is not something Cutler wants to do. He is a gunslinger who is going to want to throw the ball all over the field.
Cutler is also going to have to be prepared to take some criticism and not get his feelings hurt by rumors. Chicago is going go to love Cutler if he throws interceptions to cost the Bears victories and then pouts about it after the game.
This trade may have been one of the worst decisions the Broncos have ever made. Cutler had a pretty good thing going with Mike Shanahan allowing him to throw the ball wherever and whenever he wanted to. The only problem with the Broncos was their defense which struggled over the entire Cutler era. Shanahan was fired after the collapse last season and in came Belichick protege Josh McDaniel, who immediatley wanted to trade Cutler for Matt Cassel. That was the beginning of the end for Culter in Denver and I think hes gonna regret his decision to not talk to McDaniels or owner Tom Bowlen

Jimmy Nantz needs some ONIONS!!!

Whether it's football, basketball, or golf Jimmy Nantz is one of my least favorite announcers. He may be the most biased man on television(Michael Kay normally sticks to the radio). Jimmy and Phil Simms announcing Patriots games is the definition of a man crush on Tom Brady. It makes me sick every time I have to listen to Jim and Phil.
With the Final Four coming up this weekend I am not to pumped that I have to listen to Jimmy announce all three games. He should stick to announcing golf. At least tolerable on the links.
However this years Final Four will not be as awful as the past years because CBS broke up the dreadful duo of Billy Packer and Nantz. However CBS decided to make Clark Kellogg the replacement for Packer. I have no problem with Kellogg but he and Nantz will make the game a snoozer. CBS needed to get some emotion for the college basketball tournament, which is always one of the most exciting times of the sports year.
Why would they not choose Bill Raftery? Who wouldn't want a helping of ONIONS in the final seconds of the National Championship game? Bill Raftery and Verne Lundquist is the best pair of announcers on CBS, yet Nantz is the poster boy for some reason. That's a little NICKLE-DIMER there Verne if you ask me. Think of last years championship game. Do you remember what Jim Nantz said when Mario Chalmers hit the three at the buzzer to send it to overtime? NO. If Raftery was announcing that would have been one of the most memorable moments in sports history. That shot was a DAGGER and a double order of ONIONS. Not only would the end of the game had been much better, the entire game would have been amazing. Its a pleasure listening to Raftery for an entire game. SEND IT IN BIG FELLA, with the KISS, there's a little lingerie on the deck. Nothing is better than those phrases and they will be missed greatly for this years final four
