2013 U.S. Open Prediction

I wasn't going to write a blog for every major tournament this year. But I have nothing else going on before the Bruins play at 2 am over the pond, so why not?

My Masters prediction went as bad as it could possibly go with Keegan Bradley. All I can say is at least he made the cut.

Hopefully I'll do a little better for the U.S. Open, however I'm not too excited for it because of all the rain that has been going on near Philly. From what I've heard, the greens at Merion could get soft and we could be looking at an Open similar to the one in 2011 at Congressional when Rory McIlroy went -16 and won by eight strokes. Low scoring is nice and all but not during the U.S. Open. It's the one tournament a year when players struggle to break par. It might not be fun to watch for some but it makes me feel better about my golf game when I see pro golfers struggling to stay near even par (Not that I stay close par). Last year Webb Simpson won with a score of +1. That's how I think the U.S. Open should finish.

Anyway the rain has changed my pick. If it was regular U.S. Open conditions I would go with Graeme McDowell at 20-1. Love the Northern Irishman. Plus he won in 2010.

But due to the weather I'm going to pick Jason Day at 40/1 odds. He only has one PGA Tour victory and no Majors. But he did finish second in 2011 at Congressional, so maybe the softer greens will favor him. Also he finished third at Augusta this year. Adam Scott won the Masters, so why can't another Aussie win a major?

As for Tiger Woods because I feel like I have to mention him. Nice 44 on the back 9 at The Memorial two weeks ago bro. I can do that...at Tunxis...and if you give me a mulligan...or five.
