Survivor Season Preview

As some of you may know, I still love Survivor. It's a great show. Season 28 starts tonight on CBS. Last season I did a preview about the contestants and picked a winner.

This season everybody is new, so the only thing I know about these people comes from watching a two minute video and reading questions they answered that were on CBS.com.

I'm giving the contestants either a Probable, Questionable, or Doubtful grade like it's the NFL on their chances to win.

Beauty Tribe

Alexis --- She is a Psychology student at Northwestern so she has to be somewhat of smart and could have the capabilities of manipulating people. However she listed eating as a hobby. Last time I checked there's not too much food in Survivor. Questionable.

Brice --- He lists Colton as one of his Survivor Idols and this is a quote about why he thinks he can win, "I can turn into a person eating b*tch that will play you before you can play me." That sounds like a recipe for getting voted out early. Doubtful

Jefra --- This former Miss Kentucky is much more than a blonde beauty. She as survived cancer and she is playing for her dad, who battled a prescription drug addiction for 20 years. Her hobbies are hunting and fishing. After my quick scouting session, she has already become a personal favorite of mine. However she seems to have a strong personality, which may not mesh well on the Beauty Tribe. Questionable.

Jeremiah --- A good ole' southern boy from North Carolina. He knows how to hunt, fish, and start a fire. He plans on being friends with everybody, competing hard in challenges, and working hard in camp. That sounds like a great guy but he doesn't have a strategic bone in his body. Doubtful.

LJ --- I wasn't loving LJ but then he dropped this line in his interview, "I'm a puzzle freak. Love puzzles so much."Hey bro, my nickname is the Puzzle Master, so we should be friends. Anyways... He played college football and seems to be laid back so people should like and trust him. Probable.

Morgan --- Lets just say I hope this former San Francisco 49ers cheerleader doesn't get voted out early. As for how she will do strategically, I'm not to sure. Questionable.

Brawn Tribe

Cliff --- I'll be honest I'm rooting for Cliff Robinson. He played in the NBA for 18 years and he was a UConn Husky. I want him to go far but I'm not too sure that he will be able to. First off he is 6'10", that's huge and I can't imagine it being an advantage on the island. Also if people know who he is or find out that he played in the NBA and most likely is rich, they might hold that against him and vote him out. Doubtful

Lindsey --- I like Lindsey for some reason. Maybe it's the tats. Also one thing she wishes she could have on the island is, "A shot of Jack Daniels for a kick." A knew that game. She said she was athletic and also seems likable. As long as she doesn't scare people off with the dreads and tats she might hang around for awhile. Probable.

Sarah --- She is a Police Officer from Iowa. I think that could both hurt her and help her. She is a fan of the show and seems to have an idea about strategy but if she acts too much like a cop it could be an early exit. Questionable.

Tony --- Another cop. Tony is 39 from Jersey. It doesn't really seem like he will adapt to playing with young players so he might be on the right tribe for now but as the game progresses he might get frustrated and eventually annoy some people. Doubtful.

Trish --- She is the oldest contestant at 48 years old. I think her age might benefit her though. She seems like a tough lady that will do just fine in challenges. Similar to Tony, it will depend on how she can adapt to playing with younger players who might do some complaining. But it sounds like she is more adaptable than the other older players. Probable.

Yung "Woo" --- He will definitely not have any problems surviving on the island. He's going to be climbing trees and probably winning challenges. Woo seems like a friendly guy also but he never really mentioned trying to win the game. Woo is out there to have a good time but I don't think we will end out winning. Questionable.

Brains Tribe

David --- David Sampson is the President of the Miami Marlins. Like Cliff, I'm sure he is wealthy, so if people find out that he has money it could hurt him. However, based on the two minute video I watched he could be a good Survivor. He competes in IronMan events and seems to know how the game is played. He could be a sleeper. Probable.

Garrett --- I like the cut of his jib. He's a smart meathead if that's possible. Two of his hobbies are alcohol and bodybuilding. He went to the University of Arizona and graduated with honors but Arizona is a party school, so I'm not sure how smart that makes him. He's also a pro poker player so he should know how to play people. I like his chances. Probable.

J'Tia --- She is a Nuclear Engineer, so she is wicked smart. My issue with her is that her hobbies are watching movies and reading. She doesn't seem like an outdoors person. Plus she self-proclaimed herself a complainer, which certainly won't make people like her when everyone is hungry. Doubtful.

Kassandra --- I'm not too sure about Kassandra. She's a lawyer but she doesn't plan on telling anyone about that. The problem with that is she is on the Brains Tribe so people might not believe that she works on a farm. However, she seems like she could be a valuable member of an alliance. Questionable.

Tasha --- "I'll be a liar and a back stabber." That could either be great or horrible. A lot will depend on her situation and what type of alliance she can get into. Questionable.

Spencer --- I dislike this kid already. "Hobbies: Chess, Ultimate Frisbee, and Partying." Bro, you have never partied in your life. You are a chess expert and won some championship when you were 18. His inspiration is Mittens Romney. Why is Mitt your inspiration? Something just doesn't add up with this phony. Doubtful.

After going through all the contestants I have five probable winners.

LJ, Lindsey, Trish, David, and Garrett.

So without further ado,

MY PICK --- LJ.

The puzzle line just put him over the top. Plus he is 34 on a tribe with younger players. He should be able to be a leader early but not a threat.

My last pick, Vytas, made it to the jury so let's hope LJ can at least make it that far.

Super Bowl XLVIII

We all know who is in the Super Bowl. We all know the keys to the game. So I'm not going to sit here and tell you if I think Marshawn Lynch will or will not be able to run or if Peyton Manning will play great or not. This blog is all about my favorite prop bets and I'll also make a pick... Onto the props.

Prop Bet 1: Coin Flip = TAILS (-103) --- In the previous 47 Super Bowls the battle between Heads and Tails is a close one. Heads leads the series 24-23. Heads has also won the past five years. I think it's time for a change. Tails even though you have been failing, NOT TONIGHT.

Prop Bet 2: Over 2 mins 23 secs for the Renee Fleming National Anthem (+150) --- She's an opera singer. I have to imagine her holding notes for a long time. Give me the over.

Prop Bet 3: Under 9 Combined Punts (-115) --- Both of the Conference Championship games only combined for 10 total punts. Also the way Peyton Manning has been running the offense, if they can control the clock and have long drives there might not be a ton of possessions in the game. Nine just seems like a high number.

Prop Bet 4: Under 4.5 Total Sacks in Game (-135) --- Peyton Manning hasn't been sacked in the playoffs and Russell Wilson has the mobility to avoid sacks under tremendous pressure. I could see each guy getting sacked twice but five total seems like a lot.

Prop Bet 5: First player to spin the ball on the ground (+110) Denver Broncos --- This is a complete hunch. It might not even happen in the game. However, in the AFC Championship I noticed Eric Decker spun the ball twice after receptions. I might have missed Seahawk players doing it but I'm putting my faith in Decker. Spin it Bro.

Prop Bet 6: Marshawn Lynch Under 90.5 Rushing Yards (-125) --- I do think Marshawn will have a good game but the strength of the Broncos defense is up front. In both of their playoff games they only allowed 65 total rushing yards to the Chargers and 64 to the Patriots. Marshawn is a different animal than any back they've faced recently but I think they can hold him under 90.

Prop Bet 7: First Seahawk to score a TD (+800) Golden Tate --- No reasoning behind this one. Just a gut feeling and at +800, why not?

Prop Bet 8: Peyton Manning Over 289.5 passing yards (-110) --- Unless the Broncos run wild on the ground I think Peyton will be flinging the rock around. Sure Richard Sherman might take away Demaryius Thomas but he still has a plethora of other options.

Prop Bet 9: Julius Thomas Over 4.5 receptions (-105) --- He caught 7 balls against San Diego and 8 against New England. He might not gain a ton of yards tonight but he seems to one of Peyton's favorite targets so five balls doesn't seem like a daunting task.

Now for the actual game pick...

Broncos 24, Seahawks 21 --- DEN -2.5 To be honest I think the Seahawks might win this game and there is a chance it could get ugly especially if they pressure Peyton all night. But I want the Broncos to win. So sure I could bet on the Seahawks and then if they win, I could be glad I at least won the bet. But I want to enjoy the game. Betting on the Broncos allows me to root for them 100%. Either way hopefully it's a good game that comes down to the fourth quarter.

Enjoy the last football game until August people.
