2014 British Open Prediction

Another major down and yet another incorrect pick. Sergio Garcia let me down in the U.S. Open finishing in 35th place. I did get to voice my opinion to Sergio at the Travelers Championship the week after Pinehurst. I told him he let me down and believe me Sergio heard me and didn't seem too pleased.

The U.S. Open also marked the fourth tournament of having my two guests make their picks. All three of us have yet to make a correct pick but Mike Moriarty has correctly picked three golfers to finish in the top five. Tim Leavitt has made two top five picks, while I only have one top ten pick so basically if any of you readers actually take our advice, don't use my golfer.

Last year my British Open pick was the worst of every pick I've made so far. Luke Donald decided to shoot an 82 on Thursday at Muirfield on his way to missing the cut. I'd like to say I have higher hopes for this years tournament at Royal Liverpool but I'm not all that confident in my pick.

First off here are two guys I'll be keeping my eye on but I don't have the confidence to make them my official pick. Louis Oosthuizen won the Open Championship in 2010 by seven strokes but hasn't finished in the top 15 in the past three years, so this pick is just a hunch. The other golfer I almost selected was Lee Westwood. He has two top five finishes at the Open Championship including last year coming in a tie for third.

Anyways onto the official pick to win the Claret Jug. I've never done this before but I'm going with the same guy I picked for the U.S. Open and pretty much my new best friend since I talked to him at the Travelers. Yes that's right give me Sergio Garcia at 25/1. Serg has seven top ten finishes at the Open Championship and the last time the Open was played at Royal Liverpool Sergio was in the final pairing with Tiger Woods on Sunday. That year he ended out in fifth place. If the Spaniard is ever going to win a major tournament this could be one of his best chances.

Guest Picks ---

Other than the guys I just mentioned, I'm a big fan of the two golfers the guests selected. Tim Leavitt went with Graeme McDowell at 28/1. Graeme has only finished in the top ten at the Open one time but he is fresh off a victory in France last week. Personally, I'm a big fan of Graeme but his recent major performances are a little worrisome, having missed the cut in three of his last six majors.

Mike Moriarty went with Henrik Stenson at 16/1, who has a chance to take over the number one ranking the world. Stenston has finished in the top three at the Open Championship three times, including a runner up finish last year. The 38-year-old Swede has also finished in the top five in three of the past four majors.
