Last year picking Majors did not go well for me. 0-4. Keegan Bradley, Jason Day, Luke Donald, and Tiger Woods all let me down. In fact I'm only 1 for 8 in my career picking majors. That came two years ago when Bubba Watson won the Masters and made look a lot smarter than I actually am.
Anyways, it's a new year. UConn is the mecca of college basketball. The Bruins should have a long postseason coming up. Things are going well. I think I'm due for a correct pick...
I will say this first. No Tiger in the Masters really does change things. I'm still excited for the tournament but I love seeing Augusta in April. There's nothing like it. But without El Tigre my excitement has been a little subdued.
Last year I picked Keegan Bradley to win. I want to pick him again but considering he let me down big time on Saturday last year with an 82, can't do it.
I also picked Jason Day to win the US Open last year and he did finish in second. He has pretty good odds at 12/1. An Australian won last year at Augusta (Adam Scott), so Day winning would not surprise me one bit. However I made up my mind in January who was going to win this tournament and I'm sticking with my gut.
My pick is Rory McIlroy at 9/1. This is his 6th Masters. He has never finished in the top 10, however in 2011 he held a four stroke lead going into Sunday before shooting an 80. Choke city. He also choked away the Honda Classic this February. But he does have three top 10 finishes this season and appears to have rebounded from his turrible 2013 season.
Guest picks ---
Mike Moriarty unfortunately cannot pick Tiger for this one so he is going with Matt Kuchar at 20/1. Kuchar has finished in the top 10 at Augusta the past two years so it's certainly not a stretch to imagine him in contention on Sunday.
Tim Leavitt has been saying Brandt Snedeker all year but when push came to shove, he shoved Snedeker under the bus and picked Dustin Johnson at 22/1. Maybe Paulina Gretzky being on the cover of Golf Digest will motivate him to get a win. He has only finished in the top 25 once at the Masters. That one time being last year.
Enjoy the tourney people.
P.S. Watch out for 23 year old Victor Dubuisson from France. He's +7000 on the money line, so he's a deep deep sleeper. Never played at Augusta before. If he wins, I'm taking credit for it and retiring from picking golf events.
