Super Bowl XLVII

The Super Bowl won't start for me until 12:30 am. But I'll be watching. Also I'll be watching with French announcers which I'm actually not too upset about it, for the reason that CBS is hosting the game. Sorry for the rest of you that you have to hear Jim Nantz say, "Hello Friends" or hear Phil Simms talk. They are the worst announcers. Every sentence they say makes me upset. Can the NFL do us a favor and make Gus Johnson the announcer for every single Super Bowl from now on? Also get John Madden to announce the game as well. Johnson and Madden 2014. BOOM.

The QB matchup between Joe FLACCOOOOO and Colin Kaepernick will be interesting to watch. Somebody will get their first ring tonight. The incredible thing though is that this is the first Super Bowl since 2002 that hasn't had Tom F. Brady, Ben Roethlisberger, or Peyton Manning playing in it. Also if you look at the past five Super Bowls we have seem some of the best QB matchups ever. Brady vs Eli Manning twice (SB XLII and XLVI), Big Ben vs Aaron Rodgers (XLV), Peyton Manning vs Drew Brees (XLIV), and Big Ben vs Kurt Warner (XLIII). It's possible that all 7 of those QB's end up in the Hall of Fame one day. But this year we get Friggin Flacco and a guy making only his 10th career NFL start. Both of these guys might go onto great careers but right now this QB matchup seems as unforgettable as Trent Dilfer vs Kerry Collins in Super Bowl XXXV was, when the Ravens demolished the Giants, so maybe that's a good thing for the Ravens.

I am finding it a little but hard to choose which side to root for actually. I know I probably shouldn't pick the Ravens just because of the entire rivalry between them and the Steelers but at the same time I somewhat respect them and their style of play. I can say the same thing about the 49ers as well. Defense wins championships, not fancy pants no huddle offenses like they run in New England now. Sorry Patriots fans but I'm very happy you guys aren't playing today.

Here is how I'll figure out who to root for ---

Reason to root for the 49ers: They aren't the Ravens.

Reasons to root for the Ravens: It would be kind of cool to see Ray Lewis go out on top. Even though it really wouldn't shock me if he came back next year.

Reasons not to for the 49ers: If they win they will tie the Steelers for the most Super Bowls titles in NFL history with 6. Plus they would be 6-0 which could lead to an argument that 6-0 is better than the Steelers 6-2.

Reasons not to root for the Ravens: Where should I begin? They are the Steelers main rival. They like to whine and complain a lot when things don't go their way. Joe FLACCCCOOOOOO is boring. He claimed himself to be an elite quarterback before this season. Sure he has played great in this postseason and he throws a great deep ball but I just don't like his face. He's the reason why I can't stand the Ravens honestly. I like Ray Rice and Anquan Boldin and I respect some of their defenders but I really don't want to see Joe Flacco get a ring. There is just something about him I don't like. Also Terrell Suggs aka T-Sizzle would never shut up if they win. My God, that would be awful. He would never stop. Plus this whole Ray Lewis deer antler stuff has me a little suspicious about what goes in the Baltimore locker room. T-Sizzle tears his Achilles tendon and only misses a few weeks and Ray Ray tears his triceps but is back in two months. Something smells a little fishy in Baltimore.

Final Decision: GO NINERS.

A few prop bets because this is what the Super Bowl is all about when your favorite team isn't playing in the game frankly.

Prop Bet Number 1: Coin Flip = TAILS. In the 46 previous Super Bowls the battle between Heads or Tails is tied. It's 23-23. I'm serious. It's really a 50/50 bet. However Heads has won four straight years. In the history of the Super Bowl neither side has won five years in a row. So I like my chances with Tails this year. Tails never fails.

Prop Bet Number 2: Alicia Keys UNDER 2 Minutes and 15 seconds. I did a little research on this. If Keys goes over the 2:15 that would be the longest national anthem sung in 10 years. Plus in the previous four Super Bowls only Jennifer Hudson got close to that time with 2 minutes and 10 seconds. I'll take the under.

Prop Bet Number 3: Will Beyonce's hair be curly/crimped or straight for the Halftime Show? Give me Curly/Crimped at EVEN. I'm stealing this bet from Tim Leavitt but it sounds like that make sense. I feel like Beyonce is going to go with the curly look tonight. I'm not too sure what crimped hair means but I doubt she goes with straight hair.

Prop Bet Number 4: The color of the Gatorade poured on the winning coach will be....Clear/Water at 7/4. I just have a feeling that either team will go with water. Less sticky. There really should be a bet if any coach gets hit harder than Bill Cowher did in Super Bowl XL though? I really don't know how Bill didn't fall down. He got leveled.

Prop Bet Number 5: I'm making this one up. What are the chances Ray Lewis hurts himself when he does his dance coming out of the locker room to start the game? I mean he gets really amped up for that dance and if he's not properly warmed up and maybe he forgot to spray his triceps with deer antler stuff he could pull something. The odds would be pretty high, maybe 100 to 1 but I'm just saying there is a chance...Also it has to be a known fact that he is going to cry during the National Anthem right?

Now onto picking the actual game.

49ers 27, Ravens 24 --- BAL +3.5

The Ravens were big underdogs against the Broncos and Patriots but won both of those games. The Niners were down big in Atlanta but came back to advance to their first Super Bowl since 1994. Both teams have solid defenses and their offenses can be explosive at times. Neither of these QB's have ever played on a stage this big but Joe Flacco has a bit more experience in big games by playing in three AFC Championships. Flacco may be able to make a few big plays by throwing it deep and hoping for a pass interference and Kaepernick could easily break a 50 yard run at some point.
Both teams seem to play a similar style of football and maybe that's because they are both coached by a Harbaugh. I really think this game will be close throughout but I think the explosiveness of Colin Kaepernick might make the difference. As long as he doesn't turn the ball over the Niners have a great shot to score some points on the Ravens defense. However if Ed Reed makes a big play (which I almost want to guarantee he gets an INT but I won't) it could give the Ravens a ton of momentum.
On the other hand if Flacco isn't as sharp as he was in New England the Niners defense could make him pay. If Aldon Smith can get consistent pressure on him it could be a long day for the Ravens offense, especially if Ray Rice can't get going.
Anyway, I'll take the Niners to win a close one. I think there will be a lead change in the fourth quarter and I'm hoping it goes San Francisco's way.

Thanks for reading people.
